NES Controller Vs. Car, with video proof

March 29, 2007

I don’t feel that I really put the durability of the NES controller to the test. Tomorrow I will drive over the same controller going 20 mph and see what happens, that should make me feel better about this experiment.

GTA4 trailer is premiering today

March 29, 2007

The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV is not due until later 2007 however Rockstar is releasing a trailer in a few short hours. I’m anxious to see how they are going to follow up the amazing San Andreas but the next generation systems should give them plenty of oppertunity.

The Wait Begins!!!

NES Controller Vs. Car, the road to victory

March 28, 2007

I love to throw my controllers. Nothing feels better after an agonizing round of gaming then heaving a little piece of plastic and metal at a wall and hearing the satisfying thud. Out of all the systems that I have owned no controller has ever treated me better then the original NES controller. 4 buttons and a directional pad encompass the most durable piece of consumer electronics ever created.

While at work the other day I had an idea. To test the validity of my claim I would drive over an NES controller with my car. I guarantee that the the controller will continue to work and as of tommorrow I will have video evidence(I believe the first ever) that an NES controller can withstand being run over by a car.

Virtual Console for this week is slim pickins…

March 26, 2007

From the Nintendo press release…

Today Nintendo adds a classic Super NES® game to the popular Wii™ video game system’s Wii Shop Channel. The game goes live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new game is:

Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire™ (Super NES, 1-8 players, 800 Wii Points):
Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV is a tactical simulation game in which the player takes the role of a ruler seeking to unite China in the era of the three kingdoms of Wei, Wu and Shu. The role of the ruler is to command a range of officers with differing characteristics – some cunning strategists, others brave warriors – and strengthen the military might of his or her kingdom. Foreign policy, involving forming alliances with certain kingdoms and hatching plans to weaken others, will play a major role in this process. Once players have developed a powerful enough military, it will be time to expand their borders through military conquest. Ultimate victory will only be achieved once all 43 cities in China lie within a player’s control.

Can’t say I’m not disappointed that there is only one game this week, and on top of that it’s not a marquee title like releasing Super Mario 3, Donkey Kong Country 2, or Goldeneye would have been.

“unique” functionality are just words for the Wii

March 25, 2007

Every week that you read about a new game being developed for the Wii every company says the same thing.  “we are taking advantage of the Wii’s unique controller and functionality”.  Until someone produces a title that doesn’t have me doing a half ass mimic of the real life actions(I’m looking at you Madden) I’ll believe it when I see it. Eventually I got tired of hearing the same non sense so I decided to make my own list of what would truly utilize the Wii remote to it’s full advantage.

-First a bone to throw to all the sports gaming junkies(myself included).  The most indepth football game you can imagine.  I’m talking linemen whos hands you control during blocking, running backs where how fast you thrust the remote and nunchuck in a smooth motion controls your speed and break tackle abilities.  Imagine a basketball game where you dribbled, passed, and rebounded(this would be incredible on the Wii if done right) just like the pros.  Or imagine a boxing game for the Wii that actually worked.

-A FPS that actually utilized the remote to reload a gun in an authentic way.  No more clicking a button.  You have to fire, pop the chamber, reload by pulling a bullet out of you belt clip and then snapping it back into place.  Forgive me if my terminology is lacking but it’s been 2 years sense I shot a gun.  Either way this is World War 2 action, if guns were as easy to reload as hitting a button we’d all be speaking German and driving VW’s right now.  Also just to make everything PC again how about throwing in a feature where you get to punch Hitler in the face, just for good measure.

-A GTA style sandbox game where you play an angry retail worker.  You start out at a place like Best Buy or Target and then eventually work your way up to the corporate level.  The goal?  To beat the piss out of customers and co workers.  There would be no guns or weapons just good ol’ fashion Irish fist fighting.  If you have never had a retail/customer service job this game has no appeal but to those of who work with the unwashed masses of the consumer retarded this game has unlimited appeal.  Does it get any better then punching a virtual customer right in the stomach?

-Hear me out on this last one.  A sex game.  Don’t look at me like I’m some kind of monster.  If they had crudely drawn, scantily clad women featured in a game for the NES what is so wrong about having a game where you simulate all the best parts of sex with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.  Because I am not sure of the exact number of young kids that visit this blog I’ll spare everyone the details.  But hey everyone always says Nintendo doesn’t make “adult” games(which is total crap by the way) so here is the Big N’s chance to prove everyone wrong.

I’m shipping up to Boston…but I’m posting first

March 16, 2007

I have arrived in Boston with my beautiful wife and darling daughter. I discovered my new favorite game on the plane, Cooking Mama’s Cookoff. Played the whole way over here. Now that I’ve got Amie hooked on it I decided to check out some Fable 2 news. I finally have a few minutes to watch the half an hour demo that Peter did and let me say, I am now drinking the Molyneux kool aid.

The game looks incredible from what he is saying is going to be included but we have all heard this before. Hopefully he won’t disappoint because Fable 2 is really shaping up to be something special.
